Activity Calendar

June 2016

A workshop with Professor Liz Falconer and Dr Mari Carmen Gil Ortega
15th June 2016 at 20:00 CEST (7pm UK time) on Kitely (OpenSim).

This workshop will describe and demonstrate work in progress on the reconstruction of an ancient landscape in a virtual environment as a means to facilitate collaborative learning. The virtual landscape, a reconstruction of the Neolithic monument of Avebury Henge in Wiltshire, UK, circa 2,300 BCE, will be part of a project that involves students in Heritage, History and Curation at UWE in the autumn term of 2016.

Important note: The reconstruction is on the Kitely platform (OpenSim) and is best viewed with the Firestorm viewer. To create a free Kitely account, go to http://kitely.com and create an account, and to download the Firestorm viewer go to http://www.firestormviewer.org/downloads/ . The address for the Avebury simulation is hop://grid.kitely.com:8002/EIC%20at%20UWE/337/148/25 or attendees can just go to the Kitely world and search for 'EIC at UWE' and that will take them there.

Scripting, NPC's (= Non Player Characters), Import and export of built objects and/ or scripts from Second Life to OpenSim or vice versa, Varregions (= Variable sized regions), and also backup of inventory and backup of full islands. Furthermore, Ownership, Safety for kids, Pricing, Hypergrid, Space, Voice, Currency and other issues addressed during the presentation will be discussed..

Info on how to install the Singularity viewer can be found here http://3dles.com/en/tryout.html (the SL viewer can not be used)
Visitors that already have an account on an OpenSim grid and know how to hyperjump to other grids can log in their own grid and make a jump to edugrid.3dles.com:8002
The best is to create and account and do a test login on the 3DLES grid a few days before the meeting. Testing the sound is also important
